OpenOffice.org
Description
Tired of the ridiculous prices Microsoft charges for their products? Try OpenOffice.org! A free, open-source MS Office replacement. You won't believe how much value for no money this offers!
Drawbacks are that it uses quite a lot of system resources and it doesn't handle large spreadsheets very well.

PDFCreator
Description
This program does just what it is supposed to do and it does it very well: it creates PDF files from any document you want.
This program actually creates a virtual printer on your PC. Instead of printing on a sheet of paper, this will print a document in a PDF file.

Foxit Reader
Description
This piece of software filled the gap that was left when Adobe introduced it's Reader version 6.0, which was bloated like hell. Foxit apparently does the same but does it much faster and is very lightweight.
One small thing: it opens 99% of all PDF files like it should, but every now and then, it will have problems with a PDF.
